MANAGEMENT UPDATE.
WHAT SHOULD THE NEXT PRESIDENT DO? A NAPA COMPETITION
The National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA) has established “12 Grand Challenges of Public Administration,” including fostering social equity, building resilient communities, advancing the nation’s long-term fiscal health, making government AI ready and so on. The full list can be found by clicking here.
To advance its work in these areas, NAPA is partnering with the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs and the Network of Schools of Public Policy Affairs and Administration to create a competition that gives graduate students the opportunity to propose solutions to one of the 12 challenges sometime between September 2 and September 27.
As Terry Gerton, President and CEO of NAPA told us, “From the federal to the state and local level, it’s important to get the public administrators of the future thinking about ways to meaningfully address the 12 Grand Challenges of Public Administration. Our ‘Pioneering Solutions’ Student Grand Challenge Memo competition will encourage tomorrow’s leaders to get a head start on the important work of the next generation.”
Contestants will be asked to prepare a policy memo of no more than 1,500 words to recommend an action the next US Presidential Administration should take to address a critical issue related to one of the Grand Challenges. Participants must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university graduate program.
Winners will get their obligatory certificate, but there’s more. Their memos will be posted on NAPA’s website and shared on social media channels. They’ll also be interviewed, remotely, by an Academy staff member and those interviews will be shared with the Academy’s network.
