The following short video of Zach Markovits, vice president and local practice lead at Results for America was one of seven we filmed at the Government Finance Officers Association’s annual conference in Orlando, Florida, between June 11 and June 13. The previous one, which we posted last week, was with GFOA Executive Director Chris Morrill. In this one, Markovits talks about the ways that Results for America has worked with leaders across the country, across the partisan divide, to help make sure that the billions of dollars heading from federal programs to the states and local governments has been used for evidence-based programs that have been shown to work.

A handful of highlights from the video:

• “We saw that in some of the original spending around the American Rescue Plan, there was a significant gap between the amount (of money that) providers in jurisdictions around the country . . . were piloting on new programs and the dollars that they were reported spending on evaluating those programs.”

• “It’s critical that we are focusing on the capacity of government to spend and the capacity of government to understand and utilize evidence.” 

  
  

• “We believe in government officials as changemakers” who, armed with data and evidence, “can transform how social problems are solved in America.”
